Design 1
Pros:
- It has the ability to acquire the can within the claws because it will be surrounded at all 4 sides by the claws.
- The simple structure allows it to be easily constructed.
Cons:
- The movement of the claws will be slow due to much bending at the “joints”.
- The thickness of the claws may not be enough to acquire the can if it topples
Design 2
Pros:
- It has the ability to acquire the can within the claws.
Cons:
- The car may shift to the side when moving towards the can, so the claws may not be able to open wide enough to catch the can.
- The claws may not be strong enough.
Design 3 (selected concept)
Pros:
- The stationary claw ensures that the can is secured within the claws because the can will be pushed against it and will not fall.
- The movement of the claws will be fast because only one claw needs to move.
- The simple structure allows it to be easily constructed.
- It will be easy to program because only one claw is moving left to open and right to secure the can within.
- The car may shift to the side when moving towards the can, so the claws may not be able to open wide enough to catch the can.
Design 4
Pros:
- The claws will be strong enough so the can will not topple.
Cons:
- As the claws need to slide left and right, it may not be as easy to construct.
Design 5
Pros:
- The 3 claws will ensure that the can is caught within them.
Cons:
- The can may drop easily from the claws.
- The height of the claws may not fit within the height limit given.
